This is King. His dad called in a panic because he became very sick, very fast. We worked together to get him into a vet, where we discovered the poor puppy had lepto. Leptospirosis is a disease caused by infection with bacteria, and his body was working overtime to fight off this infection, but failing. We put him on supportive care to help him fight the infection, but sadly it wasn’t enough. He passed away overnight.

That call was hard the following morning. But as sad as King’s ending is, we’re thankful to have had the opportunity to make that call. Our East Side Pet Crisis Fund might not always be the happily ever after, but it offers something even more important and empowering. It offers hope. Hope and comfort to families in knowing they have tried everything they could to help their pets.

This hope comes with a price. Veterinary expenses pile up. But we push forward, because that spark of hope is life-saving and life-changing. Please consider donating to our East Side Pet Crisis Fund in honor of King to help more pets and families experience that glimmer of hope.

This story was made possible thanks to our East Side Pet Crisis Fund, our veterinary partner Hillside Animal Hospital, and financial support from Banfield Foundation and supporters like you!
