Why become a foster?
Fosters are a vital part of our mission of saving as many lives as possible and we would not be here without the help of people like you! By becoming a foster you are giving the the abused, neglected, and many times homeless animals living on the harsh streets of East St. Louis a second chance. Fostering a pet can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.

What are the requirements? Do I need training?
This 24¬hour¬a¬day commitment requires total dedication by the participant (and everyone in the household). We also require that all family pets be spayed/neutered and update to date on all shots for the safety of both the family pets and the foster dogs. Approved fosters will participate in a Foster Orientation and will also be assigned a Foster Mentor to guide you through the foster process.

How long will it last and how much will it cost?
Fostering is a transition time for rescue pets as they recover, learn, and grow while waiting for their “fur¬ever” family. Foster time periods typically range anywhere from two weeks to several months, depending on the animal’s age and needs. Gateway Pet Guardians will provide all the essentials for your foster dog ¬ veterinary care, food, crate, and toys.

“I figure I already have one dog, one more won’t make a difference, but it makes a difference to the foster dog who otherwise might not have a second chance. And as much as it kills me to say goodbye E.V.E.R.Y. S.I.N.G.L.E. T.I.M.E. It’s a happy ending for the foster and their new family.” ~ Katie Bick, Gateway Pet Guardians Foster
