We made some adjustments to our pet food pantry distribution this month amid the COVID-19 events. GPG is focusing solely on mission critical programming, and we strongly believe access to pet food falls within this category. About 30 families a month rely on this food, and with the chaos, we imagine access to necessities like this will grow more and more challenging. Instead of cancelling, we altered to become a drive-in distribution site so families didn’t even need to leave their vehicles, limiting exposure and keeping risk as low as possible.

Thank you to the volunteers that worked in the rain running food back and forth. 22 families still visited, distributing 880 pounds of dog food, 84 pounds of cat food, and 72 pounds of litter. This is low, but expected, as many families are already taking precautions and self-isolating.

In these times, we encourage everyone to be kind, be patient, and help protect those most vulnerable. Pick up your phone and check in on loved ones. Our boots on the ground work is currently suspended, but this gives us an opportunity to make calls and reach families without even leaving home.

Gateway Pet Guardians is accepting monetary donations and donated pet food to continue to support these efforts. To send dog or cat food to support the pantry, visit our Amazon Wishlist.
